Allen’s Blog: Connecting Coaches to the Best – Effective Leadership

ICYMI: For the first time in 800+ years, there are 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays in the month of August. Make the most of them!

 This is my favorite time of year! August is special to me. Even now, I can vividly remember as a grade schooler, long before my athletic pursuits gained full traction to dominate my life, the sense of renewal and optimism that filled my heart and spirit every August. It did then, and, still does now.

 For a variety of reasons, coaches and leaders are conditioned to manage expectations. And rightfully so. But upon further inspection, there’s a deeper conflict within. If effective leadership manages expectations well, what happens when the leader doesn’t set the boldest course, raise the bar as high as possible, create and share a vision of greatness and of what can be ultimately accomplished when it all comes together? Who does it then? There is a balance between managing expectations and catching dreams that has to be fostered and maintained.

 I believe Edmund O’Neill captured not only the essence of personal development, but also the spirit of inspirational leadership perfectly. 


You have the ability to attain whatever you seek; within you is every potential you can imagine.

Always aim higher than you believe you can reach.

So often, you’ll discover that when your talents are set free by your imagination, you can achieve any goal.

If people offer their help or wisdom as you go through life, accept it gratefully. 

You can learn much from those who have gone before you.

Never be afraid or hesitant to step off the accepted path and head in your own direction if your heart tell you that it’s the right way for you.

Always believe that you will ultimately succeed at whatever you do, and never forget the value of persistence, discipline, and determination. 

You are meant to be whatever you dream of becoming.
